Government of the Primorsky Territory of the Russian Federation
Completed work
In 2022, ForestGrand LLC received a Letter of Gratitude from the Governor of the Primorsky Territory for participation in the Forest Conservation Campaign; forest planting was carried out - 126 thousand Korean cedar seedlings were planted on an area of 42 hectares. 14 company employees and 12 local residents of the Primorsky Territory were involved.
The federal project "Forest Conservation" is planned to be extended until 2030 Like other components of the national project "Ecology", the federal project "Forest Conservation" was initially limited to 2024. But recently, proposals to extend it for another 6 years have been heard more and more loudly: first, the phrase "It is expedient to extend the implementation of the federal project" appeared in the updated "Strategy for the Development of the Forest Complex until 2030", which the government approved in February 2021, and in 2022, at one of the meetings of the Federation Council, this idea was supported by the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov.
Forest wealth.
Forests cover about 31% of the Earth's land surface. At the same time, approximately one fifth of these forests are located in Russia: they cover more than 46% of our country.
This is not only a proud sound, but also imposes a huge responsibility on our state. After all, forests are a natural treasure that requires careful attitude, care and protection.
Over the last 25 years, the area of forests worldwide has decreased by 3%.
According to long-term observations, 60% of forests in Russia have died due to fire, and 70% of fires were caused by humans. The problem of forest fires in our country is especially acute in Irkutsk and Amur regions, Transbaikal, Krasnoyarsk, Primorsky and Khabarovsk territories, Buryatia, Yakutia and Tyva. In addition, forests are thinning due to logging and parasite infestations. There are various ways to slow down the reduction of forest area. You can fight fires (or, better still, prevent them). You can plant young trees in places where logging has taken place. You can control the population of voracious wood-eating insects.
To coordinate and support those who care for trees in a variety of ways, the federal project "Forest Conservation" was created. 879 million seedlings are needed to implement the federal project by 2024. Before foresters and volunteers can plant young trees, they need to be grown, and this requires seeds.
There are 1207 forest nurseries in our country. But only 64 of them grow seedlings not on the open ground, but in technological containers, i.e. with a closed root system. This method, which we will recall a little later, allows us to increase the survival rate of plants.
The sphere of forest seed production in Russia requires modernisation taking into account modern genetic research and biotechnology. Most forest seed plantations and plots were established 40-50 years ago and were designed to be used for about 25 years.
