Federal project "Forest Conservation" 2020: by the beginning of April, 2.5 times more forest was restored than last year due to early spring. The forest cultivation season started in Russia. Within the framework of the federal project "Forest Conservation" of the national project "Ecology" forest crops have been planted on an area of more than 5.2 thousand hectares. This is 2.5 times more than in the same period last year.
Traditional reforestation work started earlier this year due to the early arrival of spring in some regions of the country. For example, more than 5,000 hectares of forest were planted in the Central and Southern Federal Districts. The most active work started in Bryansk, Tambov, Rostov, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Volgograd Regions and the Republic of Kalmykia. In the North Caucasus, foresters restored 182 hectares of forest plantations.
The target figure of the federal project this year is 1.1 million hectares. The regions of the Siberian, Northwestern and Far Eastern Federal Districts have the most ambitious reforestation targets - over 291,000 ha, 268,000 ha and 255,000 ha respectively. Agronomic care of forest crops is planned for over 640,000 ha. Work has already started in the Amur, Lipetsk, Tambov, Bryansk, Volgograd Regions, Crimea and a number of other regions.



Seeding has already started in forest nurseries in the Tambov region, Crimea and Dagestan to grow forest planting material. More than 4 million seeds for closed root system (CRS) seedlings have been planted in forest breeding and seed production centres in Tatarstan, 3.5 million in Altai Krai, 4 million in Leningrad Oblast and 4.9 million in Arkhangelsk Oblast.
Reforestation activities continue taking into account the recommendations on preventing the spread of coronavirus infection in the territories of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Appropriate protection measures are taken for forestry workers.
It should be reminded that last year, within the framework of the federal project "Forest Conservation" of the national project "Ecology", it was planned to restore 1 million hectares, and more than 1.1 million hectares of forests have already been restored. By 2024, this figure should reach 1.5 million hectares per year. In this way, a balance will be ensured between how much forest is lost and regenerated in Russia on average each year.
