Federal project "Forest Conservation" 2023 - National Project of Russia "Ecology"
Implementation of the Federal Project "Forest Conservation" in 2023.
In 2023, ForestGrand LLC participated in the implementation of the Federal Project "Forest Conservation". In spring, the company carried out measures to plant 126 thousand Korean Cedar forest crops on an area of 42 ha. The Forest Conservation Project has been implemented as part of the National Project "Ecology" since 2018. The National Project includes 10 federal projects. The work is carried out in five areas: waste, water, air, biodiversity, and technology.
The federal project is aimed at preserving national forests in order to provide a comfortable and safe environment for Russian residents. It is supposed to combat deforestation, reproduce forest cover on all areas of felled and dead forest plantations, involve the population in measures to protect, protect and reproduce forests.
The project implementation period is 01.10.2018 - 31.12.2024. Curator of the federal project Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Head of the Deputy Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation.
Russia is the number one country in terms of the number of forests. Huge timber reserves predetermined the extensive model of forest resource utilisation, which, unfortunately, continues to dominate. But the importance of forests is not at all limited to economics. Firstly, boreal forests are excellent absorbers of greenhouse gases. Secondly, climate, air purity and even water purity depend on the state of the forest.
The federal project "Forest Conservation" is intended to create conditions for the reproduction of Russian forests, which are vital for the planet. According to this document, by 2024 Russia should ensure a full balance between cut and regenerated forests. The bulk of reforestation work is assigned to entrepreneurs who lease forest land. Loggers must compensate for the damage caused to nature by planting as many trees as they cut down.
By 2024, reforestation in Russia should reach 1.5 million hectares per year. Success in reforestation depends largely on the quantity and quality of seeds. Seed production centres across the country are involved in the cultivation of forest planting material - in the Tambov, Leningrad and Arkhangelsk Regions, Crimea, Dagestan, Altai Territory, etc. For example, on Sakhalin there are 7 forest nurseries where 8.3 million spruce and larch seedlings are grown. Another 4 greenhouses with the capacity to grow 800 thousand seedlings of these trees will be built by the end of the year.
In 2019, a programme to re-equip forestry parks with specialised equipment was launched. This is the largest-scale renewal of equipment at the expense of federal funds in recent years. The fleet expansion allowed forestry farms to increase the speed of response to ignitions in the forest. Early detection of fire hotspots and immediate response help preserve Russia's important green heritage.
In total, the area of reforestation and afforestation in the country totalled 6.3 million hectares over 5 years. At the same time, in 2023 reforestation was carried out on 1.4 million hectares, which is 6.7% more than last year's figure, and afforestation was carried out on 5.1 thousand hectares, which is 102% of the annual plan.
